Services / Logo Design

Logo design services built for small businesses

A strategy-led logo design service with a fixed scope, a complete file package, and full copyright transfer on final payment. Remote, English-speaking, worldwide. No template marks, no upsell ladder.

Deliverables

What our logo design service includes

Logo design services live or die on what actually lands in your inbox at the end. Ours ends with every file, lockup, and usage rule your business needs, delivered once, with the rights paperwork done. Here is the full package.

Concepts

Original concept directions

Two to three distinct logo directions drawn for your business, not adapted from templates, stock icons, or clip art. Every mark starts from your brief.

Files

The complete file package

Vector source (AI and EPS), SVG for web, layered PNG and PDF exports, in CMYK and RGB. No paywalled "source file upgrade" later.

Variants

Every lockup you will need

Horizontal and stacked lockups, an icon-only mark, colour, mono, and reversed versions, plus favicon and social profile crops.

Guidance

A mini usage guide

A short rule sheet with clear space, minimum sizes, exact colour codes, and typefaces, so the logo stays consistent wherever you apply it.

Rights

Full ownership, in writing

Copyright in the final mark transfers to you on final payment. It is stated in the proposal, not buried in platform terms.

Support

Post-delivery file re-supply

Lose a file a year from now and we resend the package. Handover is a relationship, not a download link that expires.

Definition

What are logo design services?

Logo design services are professional engagements in which a designer or studio researches your business, develops original logo concepts, refines a chosen direction through feedback rounds, and delivers a complete file package (vector source, SVG, PNG, colour and mono variants) with usage rights transferred to you.

That definition separates a design service from a DIY logo generator: the service includes research, judgement, and accountability, not just an image. If you want the full background before hiring anyone, start with our complete guide to logo design; it covers the territory with no sales agenda.

Why a studio

Why small businesses choose a studio over a marketplace

One accountable designer, and research you can check

Marketplace logo platforms put an anonymous queue between you and whoever does the work; if a concept misses, your recourse is a support ticket. A studio engagement gives you one accountable point of contact who asked the strategy questions before drawing anything.

KM Studio's foundation is editorial: we publish researched guides on logo costs, logo types, and logo makers, and that same research discipline runs through client work. The comparisons we make on this page are the ones our published guides make; you can read them and check our reasoning.

Honestly, one pattern we see constantly: the cheapest marketplace tiers exclude the vector source files, so buyers pay twice, once for the logo and again for the files that make it usable. Our package includes everything from the start, with a fixed scope agreed in writing.

The KM Studio difference

Accountable: one designer relationship, kickoff to handover.

Strategy-first: positioning questions before pixels.

Transparent: fixed scope, no source-file upsells.

Honest: we will tell you if a DIY maker is the smarter spend today.

Process

Our logo design process, step by step

The process runs two to four weeks from kickoff to final files. Each step has a defined output, so you always know what you are approving and what comes next.

  1. 1

    Discovery: questionnaire and consultation call

You complete a short brief covering your audience, competitors, and positioning, then we walk through it together on a call. This is week one, and it is where most of the logo is actually decided.

  2. 2

    Research and direction

We scan your competitive set and audience context, then frame two or three visual directions as moodboards. You approve a direction before any final drawing starts, so no round is wasted.

  3. 3

    Concept presentation

You receive two to three original logo concepts in context: on a website header, a profile avatar, and a printed mock. Seeing marks in use beats judging them on a blank page.

  4. 4

    Refinement rounds

We refine your chosen concept through the structured revision rounds set out in your proposal. Feedback is asynchronous or on a call, whichever suits your time zone.

  5. 5

    Delivery and handover

You receive the full file package, every lockup and variant, and the usage guide, typically two to four weeks after kickoff. Copyright transfers to you with the final payment.

Logo types

Which type of logo fits your business?

Most logos fall into six types: wordmarks, lettermarks, pictorial marks, abstract marks, combination marks, and emblems. The right one depends on your name length, industry, and where the logo has to work; the scalability test is whether it stays legible at favicon size.

We recommend a type during discovery rather than asking you to pick blind. For the full breakdown with examples, see our guide to the eight types of logos.

Wordmark

Your name, set with intent

Best when the business name is short and distinctive. Think of it as typography doing the whole job.

Lettermark

Initials as the mark

Suits long names that abbreviate naturally. A monogram compresses well into favicons and app icons.

Pictorial

A literal symbol

A recognisable image tied to what you do. Strong for consumer brands with room to build recognition.

Abstract

A shape you can own

Non-literal geometry that becomes yours through use. Flexible across industries and easy to protect.

Combination

Symbol plus name

The workhorse for small businesses: the symbol and wordmark work together or separately as space demands.

Emblem

Name inside the mark

Badge-style marks suit heritage or craft positioning, though they compress poorly at favicon size.

File package

Every file you need, delivered once

File formats are where cheap logo services quietly cut corners. This table is the exact package we hand over, and what each format is actually for; our logo file formats guide goes deeper if you want it.

The KM Studio logo file package. Every engagement includes all formats listed; nothing is a paid upgrade.
FormatUse it forWhy it matters
AI / EPS (vector source)Editing, signage, large-format printThe master file. Scales to a billboard without quality loss; a printer will ask for this.
SVGWebsites and appsVector for screens: sharp at every size and lightweight to load.
PNG (transparent)Everyday use: docs, slides, social postsDrops onto any background. We supply several sizes so nothing gets stretched.
PDFSending to vendorsA print-ready wrapper most vendors accept when they do not take AI or EPS.
CMYK and RGB versionsPrint vs screen colourCMYK keeps print colour accurate; RGB keeps screens vivid. You get both, labelled.

Strategy first

Strategy before pixels: how research shapes your logo

A logo is your positioning, compressed

A logo is a compression of brand strategy: one mark that has to carry your positioning wherever it appears. That is why our discovery starts with who you serve, what you stand against, and how you want to be seen, before any drawing happens.

What we usually tell founders: most rejected logo concepts fail on strategy fit, not aesthetics. A beautiful mark that says the wrong thing gets discarded; an honest process fixes the "says the wrong thing" part first, which is why our revision rounds converge instead of wandering.

If your positioning itself is still unsettled, it is cheaper to fix that first through brand strategy consulting than to iterate a logo toward a moving target.

Asked in every discovery

Audience: who has to recognise and trust this mark?

Competitors: what does everyone else's logo look like, so yours does not?

Positioning: premium or accessible, established or challenger?

Contexts: where does the logo live most: screen, print, product, signage?

Tell us about your business

A proposal is free and specific: scope, timeline, and a fixed price for your situation. As a small studio we take a limited number of concurrent projects, so the earlier you write, the sooner we can start.

Honest comparison

DIY logo maker, marketplace, or studio?

Use a DIY maker when you are validating an idea, a marketplace when speed and price outrank originality, and a studio when the brand carries real commercial weight. Each lane is legitimate at the right stage; the expensive mistake is buying the wrong lane for your stage.

We publish neutral reviews of the DIY tools, so this comparison is not a straw man; sometimes the free option genuinely is the right call.

The three ways to buy a logo, compared. Cost ranges reflect the researched benchmarks in our logo cost guide as of 2026.
RouteTypical costOriginalityOwnership rightsBest when
DIY logo maker$0–$65Template-assembled, shared with other usersYou (check the tier)Validating an idea before real money is on the line
Marketplace / contest$10–$600Varies widely; template reuse is a known riskUsually, on paid tiersFast, cheap options when originality matters less
Freelancer$300–$2,500Original, depends on the individualNegotiated per contractA trusted individual relationship at mid-range budgets
Studio (this service)$1,000–$10,000+Original, strategy-led, no stock elementsFull transfer in writingBusinesses where the brand carries real weight

What we usually tell founders weighing the middle lanes: price the rebrand, not just the logo. A mark that has to be replaced in eighteen months, with new signage, packaging, and recognition lost, usually costs more than the studio premium would have.

Pricing

How much do logo design services cost?

Logo design services cost anywhere from about $10 on marketplaces to $10,000 and beyond at established studios, with most professionally designed small-business logos landing between $300 and $2,500. The spread reflects research depth, originality guarantees, and what rights and files are included, not just drawing time.

Those ranges come from our researched logo cost benchmarks, which we keep updated; we would rather cite our own published data than invent an anchor price. To the recurring question "is $500 too much for a logo?": no, it is low-to-mid professional range, and the better question is what the $500 includes.

KM Studio works in fixed-scope packages with the deliverables listed above included in every tier. Current packages and prices are on our pricing page; your proposal will quote one number, not an estimate that grows.

Ownership

You own your logo, completely

After delivery

What happens after handover

Day one with your new logo

Handover day is practical, not ceremonial: you get the organised file package, the usage guide, and a short note on which file goes where. Send the PDF or EPS to printers, put the SVG on your website, and use the transparent PNGs everywhere else.

Keep the vector source files somewhere safe, and if you ever lose them, ask; we re-supply the package free. There is no subscription, no hosting dependency, and nothing that stops working if we disappear.

When the business is ready for a full visual system around the mark, colour, typography, and guidelines, that is our brand identity design service, and your logo slots straight into it.

Launch checklist

Website: SVG in the header, favicon files installed.

Google profile: square PNG uploaded.

Social: profile crops on every active channel.

Email: signature updated with the horizontal lockup.

Print: vendors get the CMYK PDF, never a screenshot.

Terms, plainly

Revisions, guarantees, and what if nothing lands

Design guarantees are usually marketing copy. Ours are terms, stated before you pay: each package includes a defined number of structured revision rounds, payment splits 50/50 between kickoff and delivery, and files release on final payment.

Fit check

Who this service is for (and who it is not)

A proposal wastes both our time if the fit is wrong, so here is the honest sorting. Two of these four scenarios should probably not hire us yet.

Good fit

Launching a funded startup

You have positioning to express and investors to face. Pair the logo with brand strategy consulting so the mark encodes a real point of view.

Good fit

Outgrown your first logo

The business is real now and the DIY mark from year one undersells it. A redesign keeps the equity you have built while fixing scalability and originality.

Honest no

Pre-revenue idea validation

If you are still testing whether the idea has legs, use a logo maker first. Our own logo design guide covers the DIY route without judgement; come back when the brand has to last.

Bigger scope

You need the whole identity

If you also need colour, typography, and guidelines as a system, start with our brand identity design service instead; the logo is included there.

Logo design services FAQ

How much does it cost to have someone design a logo?
Professionally designed logos in the US market run from roughly $300 for an early-career freelancer to $10,000+ for an established studio, with marketplaces cheaper and agencies far above. Our packages are fixed-scope and listed on our pricing page; the full market breakdown is in our logo cost guide.
Is $500 too much for a logo design?
No. $500 sits at the low-to-middle of the professional range and typically buys a freelancer-designed original mark. What matters more than the number is what it includes: vector source files, defined revisions, and copyright transfer. A $500 logo missing those can cost more than a $1,500 one that has them.
Do I own the logo after I pay for it?
With us, yes: full copyright in the final mark transfers to you on final payment, stated in writing in the proposal. This is worth checking anywhere you buy a logo, because some platforms and cheap tiers retain rights or licence the same elements to multiple buyers.
Can ChatGPT or an AI generator design my logo instead?
It can generate logo-like images, and for a throwaway test that may be enough. The honest caveats: outputs are hard to get as clean vectors, originality is unverifiable, and US copyright protection for purely AI-generated art is unsettled. We compare the tools neutrally in our guide to AI logo generators.
How long does the logo design process take?
Typically two to four weeks from kickoff to final files: discovery in week one, concepts by the end of week two, then refinement and delivery. Faster is possible when feedback turns around quickly; we will give you a specific timeline in the proposal.
How many revision rounds are included?
Each package includes a defined number of structured revision rounds, stated in the proposal before you commit. If none of the initial concepts lands, we run one fresh concept round before any walk-away conversation, so you are never stuck polishing a direction you dislike.
Can I trademark the logo you design?
We design for distinctiveness and use no stock or template elements, which is the design-side foundation of trademarkability. Registration itself is a legal step: run a clearance search on the USPTO trademark database and have an attorney file. We supply the artwork files your filing needs.
How do we work together if we are in different time zones?
The whole engagement runs remotely: a shared brief, scheduled video calls, and asynchronous feedback on presented concepts. We work with English-speaking clients globally, and most rounds move faster async than they would in meetings anyway.
